Tamoxifen induces a Cre/loxp system. Without tamoxifen, Cre-ER binds to HSP90 and localizes in the cytoplasm. Tamoxifen displaces HSP90 and binds to Cre-ER, causing Cre-ER to translocate to the nucleus and then inactivate the target gene.
